Cutaneous Laser Therapy

Cutaneous Laser Therapy is a procedure or procedures done with either of our Sciton™ laser systems: the Profile™BBL™ Broadband Light System or the Profile™ Clearscan™ System. These systems use infrared energy to precisely treat the face, neck, chest and hands for cosmetic problems such as visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, vascular lesions, redness and telangiectasia.

Additionally, these systems are also effective for treating fine wrinkles, age spots, redness, flushing, red spots and hyperpigmentation. This therapy can help restore youthful color to your skin by gently eliminating broken capillaries and other vascular structures from the visible layers of your skin’s surface, leaving a smoother and more even complexion.

FAQs

  • Q: What areas can be treated with the Sciton™ laser system?
    A:
Using the Sciton™ Profile™ BBL™ Broadband Laser System or the Sciton™ Profile™ Clearscan™ System, the face, neck, chest and hands can be treated for fine wrinkles, age spots, small veins, redness and flushing, red spots and hyperpigmentation.
  • Q: How many treatments will I need?
    A:
You may need 2 to 5 treatments, at 2–4 week interval to produce the desired effect. It depends on the severity of the condition.
  • Q: Will the treatment be uncomfortable?
    A:
The treatment discomfort varies from person to person. There should be minimal discomfort but overall it depends on how deep the treatment needs to be to get the targeted areas. There is no need for topical anesthetic; however it is available if needed.
  • Q: How long will it take to recover?
    A:
This is a non-invasive procedure with virtually no down-time. You may experience some redness in the treated area and it may feel like a sunburn. This will resolve in a few hours. Some pigmented lesions will begin to darken and then flake off over 5-7 days. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable, and sun spots will fade.
  • Q: What will happen during the procedure?
    A:
Your eyes will be protected from the laser light with safety shields or glasses. A gel will be applied to the area to be treated. During the treatment you may feel a rubber band snap or warm sensation as the laser is delivering energy to the targeted areas.
  • Q: What aftercare will I need?
    A:
You may be given some cream to minimize the inflammation and redness following the treatment. We encourage the use of sunscreen at all times but especially following a treatment. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure. Many of the conditions treated are caused by sun exposure, so avoiding the sun will prolong your new skin appearance.
