History
St. Paul Radiology and Dr. Edward Schons began providing radiology services in St. Paul in 1920 in the Lowry Medical Arts Building. The first real association was formed in 1936 when Dr. Schons and Dr. John P. Medelman became partners. Drs. Harold Peterson and Leo Nash joined to complete the first practice. A brief history of St. Paul Radiology Firsts: 1920- Dr. Edward Schons is the first roentgenologist in St. Paul1939- Dr. Edward Schons established the first super-voltage radiation facility in the USA1950- Drs. John Coleman and Harold Peterson performed the first diskogram in Minnesota 1961- Dr. Thomas Johnson became the first radiologist to bring percutaneous selective angiography into private practice. He also introduced coronary and adult angiocardiography, vasoconstrictive and chemotherapy infusions, peripheral vascular dilatations, vena cava filter placement, selective pulmonary arteriography, balloon angioplasty and intrathrombotic thrombolytic infusion to St. Paul Radiology's practice 1962- First automatic film processor installed 1967-Dr. Coleman leads the formation of the 7-County Physicians Metro Health Force 1974- First CT installed in St. Paul-spearheaded by Drs. Harry Eelkema and Leonard Levitan 1984- First MRI scanner installed in St. Paul 1997-PACS network is installed allowing for electronic image transfers of CT and MRI studies 2000- St. Paul Radiology installs the first PET scanner in the metro area 2002- St. Paul Radiology installs the first PET/CT scanner in the metro area 2007- St. Paul Radiology's 90 physicians serve six outpatient imaging centers and 11 hospitals in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin
